The Google Pixel 8 came out in October after a much-anticipated release, so it was only a matter of time before the Google Pixel 7 series dropped in price. That time is here. The 128GB unlocked Google Pixel 7a is $374 (originally $499.99), the 128GB unlocked Google Pixel 7 is now available for $399.99 (originally $599), and the 128GB unlocked Google Pixel 7 Pro is $512.03 (originally $899). All three Google Pixel phones are at their lowest price ever, according to price comparison tools. For reference, the 7 Pro hit $549 on Feb. 14, which was then the record-low price.

The main difference between the 7 and the Pro is that with the 7 Pro, you get a better camera, a superior Super Res Zoom, and a larger display with a slightly better refresh rate. Both phones give you a 50MP wide camera and one 12MP ultrawide, but the Pro has a better field of view and a 48MP telephoto camera. You can read more about the difference in our breakdown here.

The Google Pixel 7 is still an “outstanding phone,” according to PCMag’s review. It was deemed the best Android phone for its price and the most affordable flagship phone. If you prioritize long battery life, the Pixel 7 has a slight advantage with two more hours than the Pixel 7 Pro, with up to 12 hours and 10 minutes. The Pixel 7 Pro got an “excellent” review from PCMag.

The Pixel 7a has a similar metal-framed design to the Pixel 7, but it is slightly smaller and lighter, with a 6.1-inch screen over the Pixel 7’s 6.3. The back is also made out of a glossy plastic back instead of the more premium feel from the Pixel 7’s Gorilla Glass Victus material. The cameras are different, but there isn’t a clear “better” one.

Users shopping for a high-end Android phone for an affordable price should take a serious look at either of these Pixel phones. All three will be covered by Google’s ongoing security updates and Pixel feature updates for years to come.

O.J. Simpson died of prostate cancer, death certificate says

Published

on

O.J. Simpson’s death certificate released this week confirms he died of prostate cancer at his home in Las Vegas, his attorney told The Times.

Attorney Malcolm LaVergne said on Saturday the Clark County, Nev.-issued death certificate “just confirms what I think most people widely suspected anyway — it was prostate cancer. No other causes listed.”

Simpson’s family previously said on the social media platform X that the 76-year-old had died of cancer April 10.

Simpson, a former football star, was acquitted in the 1994 deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald L. Goldman in a criminal court. A civil court jury later found him liable for the deaths.

He served nine years of a 33-year sentence following his 2008 conviction on armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy and other charges stemming from his attempt to recover memorabilia he claimed had been stolen from him. His incarceration was widely viewed as overdue punishment for the slayings of Simpson and Goldman.

Simpson announced in a May 2023 social media post that he had an unspecified type of cancer. In two videos posted in February, Simpson reassured his followers that he was healthy.

In a Feb. 9 video, Simpson denied he was in hospice care. In a video posted two days later, he said his health was “good.”

“Obviously, I’m dealing with some issues, but I think I’m just about over it, and I’ll be back on that golf course, hopefully, in a couple of weeks,” he said, seated in a chair by a pool.

About one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. Prostate cancer risk is higher in African American men and in Caribbean men of African ancestry than in men of other races.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels claim downing US Reaper drone, release footage showing wreckage of aircraft

Published

on

JERUSALEM (AP) — Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Saturday claimed shooting down another of the U.S. military’s MQ-9 Reaper drones, airing footage of parts that corresponded to known pieces of the unmanned aircraft.

The Houthis said they shot down the Predator with a surface-to-air missile, part of a renewed series of assaults this week by the rebels after a relative lull in their pressure campaign over the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.

U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Bryon J. McGarry, a Defense Department spokesperson, acknowledged to The Associated Press on Saturday that “a U.S. Air Force MQ-9 drone crashed in Yemen.” He said an investigation was underway, without elaborating.

The Houthis described the downing as happening Thursday over their stronghold in the country’s Saada province.

Footage released by the Houthis included what they described as the missile launch targeting the drone, with a man off-camera reciting the Houthi’s slogan after it was hit: “God is the greatest; death to America; death to Israel; curse the Jews; victory to Islam.”

The footage included several close-ups on parts of the drone that included the logo of General Atomics, which manufactures the drone, and serial numbers corresponding with known parts made by the company.

Since the Houthis seized the country’s north and its capital of Sanaa in 2014, the U.S. military has lost at least five drones to the rebels counting Thursday’s shootdown — in 2017, 2019, 2023 and this year.

Reapers, which cost around $30 million apiece, can fly at altitudes up to 50,000 feet and have an endurance of up to 24 hours before needing to land.

The drone shootdown comes as the Houthis launch attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, demanding Israel ends the war in Gaza, which has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians there. The war began after Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and taking some 250 others hostage.

The Houthis have launched more than 50 attacks on shipping, seized one vessel and sank another since November, according to the U.S. Maritime Administration.

Houthi attacks have dropped in recent weeks as the rebels have been targeted by a U.S.-led airstrike campaign in Yemen. Shipping through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden has declined because of the threat. American officials have speculated that the rebels may be running out of weapons as a result of the U.S.-led campaign against them and after firing drones and missiles steadily in the last months. However, the rebels have renewed their attacks in the last week.

Pastor Greg Laurie to deliver faith-filled inspiration at ‘Hope for Lahaina’ event

Published

Nearly nine months after the devastating wildfire in Maui, the community is still struggling and suffering from the after-effects of the destructive blaze.

Pastor Greg Laurie, founder of Harvest Christian Fellowship in California and Hawaii, wants to help provide for the needs of those struggling on the island, both in the physical and spiritual sense.

Laurie, along with former “American Idol” contestant Danny Gokey and worship leader Leeland, are hosting an outreach event called “Hope for Lahaina” on Sunday, April 28. They’re aiming to preach a Gospel message to the people of Maui and be a source of encouragement and uplift for the people who are trying to regain a sense of normalcy after losing everything.

PASTOR GREG LAURIE ON WHY HE IS PRO-LIFE: ‘MY LIFE WAS SAVED FROM ABORTION’

Speaking to Fox News Digital this week, Laurie said there remains a “lingering sadness” over the island, long after the clouds of smoke and ashes faded.

“The reality is settling in,” he said. “Sadly, some have left the island altogether.”

While the event is called “Hope for Lahaina,” Laurie said “hope” is an acronym that stands for “Holding On with Patient Expectation.”

“The Bible tells us that hope can function like an anchor in a person’s life,” he said.

In Lahaina, this is playing out in quite a literal sense, said Laurie. A “massive anchor” now stands where the Pioneer Inn, a historic inn that was the oldest continuously operating hotel in Hawaii, once stood.

“The anchor survived that horrific fire, as did the famed Banyan tree,” said Laurie. “That tree was originally planted in 1873 to mark the 50th anniversary of the first mission by missionaries to the island.”

The Banyan tree and anchor, said Laurie, “symbolize what we are doing.”

“Hope in God anchors us in tumultuous times, and God can bring ‘beauty out of ashes’ and we can live and grow again,” he said.

That hope, said Laurie, “is found in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.”

Harvest, which has a location in Lahaina, has “been able to step in the gap and bring both practical help and hope to the people of this island,” he said.

Thanks to donations from across the country, Havest Maui has provided food, clothing, school supplies, housing and more to people who survived the fires.

“We also had mental health specialists on the island speaking, as well as at events for families — from inspirational movie nights to outreaches to thousands of kids,” Laurie told Fox News Digital.

He continued, “We’ve assisted local area schools by building temporary classrooms for their children and have continued to support Maui’s first responders, who are also victims of the fires.”

The aftereffects of the fire are particularly hard for children, he said, who are now bussed 90 minutes to and from school each day after their original schools were destroyed.

“Rebuilding here has been slow,” said Laurie.

Aside from physical assistance, Laurie has also worked to meet people’s spiritual needs.

“Our weekly worship services and Bible teachings are the heart of all we say and do,” he said. “We’ve had Harvest Maui pastors trained in biblical trauma counseling to support those in the community who need assistance.”

“Harvest Maui is here for the long haul.”

“Harvest Maui is here for the long haul,” said Laurie, noting that his church will soon be moving to a more permanent facility to accommodate its growing congregation.

“I cannot emphasize enough how important spiritual help is to people, especially at a time like this,” he said.

The situation in Lahaina, he said, is not unlike the story of Lazarus in John’s Gospel.
