Thank you for sharing this History and Video. I just discovered I have Afro- Mexico roots after recently doing a DNA test. I learned so much from this video and should be a part of every School Cricculum. This is such important part of History. So many times people of African decent are left out of a Latin culture and are under represented or not represented at all. The African Diaspora have played a major part of building one's s Country Culture and Traditions. The Black African communities and it's people have contributed to a People, a Culture, and a Country. You have enriched me with so much more Knowledge and Power. I can't thank you Enough! Thank you for bringing Awareness. I am so proud to be a African- American women with Afro- Mexican roots. Reclaiming my roots Culture and History.

Slavery was not the beginning of black history in any country. There is strong evidence that blacks were the first to inhabit all continents especially mexico. Look at the large stone head sculptures with unmistakable black features. These sculptures were made and abandoned well before slavery.

Juan Correa is another important character in Mexican art history:

“The prestigious Mexican painter Juan Correa (1646-1716) (…) He was the grandson of Juan Correa, from Villa de Albacete and Juana María, born in Cádiz, who emigrated to New Spain. His father, the well-known surgeon Juan Correa, and his mother, Pascuala de Santoyo, were born there, a free black woman who, before marrying the doctor, had four illegitimate children as a slave, by a gentleman from Santiago named Alonso de Santoyo. When he died, he left her a considerable fortune that served to buy the freedom of the family.
But the painter's ethnicity, which was recorded in several documents in which he is called "pardo", that is, mulatto, did not keep him from a brilliant career.
Among his great contributions stands out the incorporation of little angels from New Spain, that is, dark or "broken in color", as it was said, with which he wanted to plastically and publicly express the spiritual equality of the human condition, becoming a characteristic hallmark of his work.”

He was probably the first painter in the entire continent, to incorporate angels with darker skin in religious paintings. It may not sound like much, but for the time it was very revolutionary.
His painting "El niño Jesús con ángeles músicos" shows a mulatto angel. My Mexican art teacher told us that the restorers, over time, have been lightening the skin of the little mulatto angel. Just as in Mexican elementary schools they prefer not to mention that Vicente Guerrero was zambo (black and indigenous). Mexican nationalism was founded on the mestizo identity and does not admit a black origin, it is the truth. Only now is it being sought to rescue and recognize the black population in Mexico, unfortunately, when their community and traditions are about to disappear due to poverty and government abandonment. Saludos desde México.

Don,t forget that during the era of slavery the rat line who transported blavk slaves to freedom not all of them went to Canada or the north some went south to Mexico out of the geographical proximity ro the plantations too so that is why Mexico has a population of afro mexicans today.

The original Mexican are of Africoid race, they were never brought to the Continents by no Spainish explorers, they enslaved the indigenous black population on land, the dark skin Negros you see in Mexico and other places are indigenous not, they were never brought to Mexico through a ship from Africa, that's a brainwashing lie, the pale skin Mexicans are the descendants of rape on indigenous land and their fathers were caucasian Europeans, the dark Mexicans are the original people of ancient Mexico you see on the Pyramids, they are not mixed with anything, just look at the hirogliths do you see any pale skin Mexicans, of course not. America had no pale skin Tribes from Europe, Walter Neves a anthroplogist found 12,000 to 50,000 yr old Remains of Negroids not Mongoloid from Siberia, meaning that the SIberian Asian migration was never thousands of yrs ago, it was more like 1500, Europeans brought Asians from Siberia from 1500 to 1800 to the Americas white out the indigenous black Americans, The caucasian white people that call themselves Mexico, Brazilians, Colombia, Hundorus, Equador are European mix breed of rape mothers that were black indigenous, These spanish male colonizer can not impregnant black indigenous male Mexicans. To prove who is the first Americans of South, Central America was all Black Africoid people who were the original Indigenous of America. Their were no Pale skin European in the whole Americas before 1492 invasion for that matter. watch and listen to facts, the word Africa did not existed before 1300AD, Africa WAS CALLED ETHIOPIA, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=457_pAslsE0

This makes so much sense . Do you guys remember the term "mejorar la raza" or "mejorar la familia"? This was also a way to protect the women since we would be respected and more likely able to marry and be protected by the husband and family .
