The rise and fall of the medieval Islamic Empire – Petra Sijpesteijn & Birte Kristiansen

Published

on

Trace the rise and fall of the Islamic Empire, from the prophet Muhammad in the 7th century to the sacking of Baghdad.

In the 7th century CE, the prophet Muhammad united the people of the Arabian Peninsula through the formation of Islam. Over the next 30 years, caliphs conquered vast areas beyond Arabia, including their mighty neighbors the Persians and Byzantines. But an empire this vast was at risk of conflict and fracture. Petra Sijpesteijn and Birte Kristiansen detail the rise and fall of the Islamic Empire.

Lesson by Petra Sijpesteijn & Birte Kristiansen, directed by Elahe Baloochi, Fardi Mahmoodi.

But this wasn’t the end of mighty empires ruling the region! In the late 13th century came the Ottoman Empire — one of the longest-lasting dynasties in world history. What enabled its rise to power? Check our our video on the early days of the Ottomans to find out: https://bit.ly/TEDEdOttoman

Actually the civil wars in caliphate era was started in the death of Omar ibn Khattab. He was killed while morning prayer. It also same for Osman ibn Affan.

03:15 most rubbish claim – – the pislims attackers were barbaric ppl who destroyed scientific book culture, artistic monuments of the region they attacked like India. They always aimed to wipe out local culture and force pislamic culture

The video is misleading as it portrays pislims as lovers of science arts and culture. There is no word for science in Arabic/ Urdu. As claimed at 04:56 if they were intelligent, what are their contribution to science and arts

I can help commenting on the start of the video. a chain of events that would change the world order for good. Really? People of Iran having to flee and take refuge in other countries. People across the conquered territories being butchered. All this is for good? Present day order in Afghanistan or iran under islamic clerics is for good?
Video says that locals were allowed to practice their religion and conveniently ignores that lot of violent efforts were put in coverting people, tax imposed on those who didn't convert, etc. In India, many sikh gurus sacrificed their lives. But even after torturing them, the conversion madness didn't stop.
Video talks about their library being destroyed, but wants to ignore libraries they destroyed.

If we don't learn from history, how will Islamic fanaticism ever stop?

How Africa Shaped Our Christmas Celebrations: Discover the Hidden History

Published

on

Interestingly, many Christians, particularly Black Christians, are often unaware of the true origins of the December global celebration. Previously, the celebration was variably scheduled in January, March, April, May, or September, reflecting uncertainty about the actual birthdate of Jesus.
The holidays we observe today have their roots in sacred days from ancient Kemetic or what is popularly known as Egyptian culture, where these occasions were timed with celestial events such as the alignment of stars, constellations, and the sun’s position relative to Earth.

The colonial education narrative has consistently taught, and still teaches, Africans that their ancestors relied solely on oral traditions to transmit knowledge and memory. Sadly, Africans in the so-called West, Central, East, and Southern African regions are unaware of writing systems in these parts of Africa.
