500 Years of African Presence in Florida and European Presence in the Kongo Region

Robin Poynor, exhibition curator and University of Florida Professor of Art History in the School of Art and Art History, briefly discusses the 500th anniversary of African presence in Florida as a primary motivation for initiating the “Kongo across the Waters” exhibition, and then briefly discusses the initial impact of European presence in the Kongo region, especially in terms of conversion to Christianity.
