Medieval England’s history starts with the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century.
In the 11th century, the Anglo-Saxon elite was completely replaced by the invading Normans. William the Conqueror and his successors brought novelties to England such as castles and cavalry.
The last phase of Medieval England started with the great Famine and Black Death in the 14th century, when millions of lives were lost, resulting in England losing half of its population.

Oppressive feudalism, no anti-biotics, no safe anesthesia, high infant mortality, low average life expectancy, plagues, no refrigeration, no air conditioning, primitive heating etc… However, there is the lie of romanticized version of the medieval period that came out of the Victorian era in the 19th century.

It was the fermentation process that made small beer less dangerous than the water available.

The Dark Ages was only the period 450-1000 AD, not the whole of Middle Ages. The high middle ages in England is usually 1066 onwards.

England in the Middle Ages concerns the history of England during the medieval period, from the end of the 5th century through to the start of the Early Modern period in 1485. When England emerged from the collapse of the Roman Empire, the economy was in tatters and many of the towns abandoned. After several centuries of Germanic immigration. New identities and cultures began to emerge, developing into kingdoms that competed for power. A rich artistic culture flourished under the Anglo-Saxons, producing epic poems such as Beowulf. ////// The Anglo-Saxons converted to Christianity in the 7th century and a network of monasteries and convents were built across England. In the 8th and 9th centuries England faced fierce Viking attacks, and the fighting lasted for many decades, eventually establishing Wessex as the most powerful kingdom. The Norman invasion of England in 1066 led to the defeat and replacement of the Anglo-Saxon elite with Norman and French nobles and their supporters. William the Conqueror and his successors took over the existing state system, repressing local revolts and controlling the population through a network of castles. The new rulers introduced a feudal approach to governing England…

Youre wrong about why its called the Dark Ages . Its due to not a lot of contemporary writers shining a light on the times . Im seeing this misunderstanding more and more from American historians and its a problem as theyre the most prolific on internet . Pls get it right.

If a day comes when I do have some extra money, I will most assuredly purchase several of your book. I am fascinated by the medieval time period. So, until then, thank you for uploading your videos, I find them very interesting and informative as well. So, again….thank you.

Why are all vids about the history of Britain made by Americans? 😢 Thank you for doing them anyways.
PS the Dark Ages were not known as the medieval period. The dark ages came before that and were named this due to the lack of written information we have about them.

How Africa Shaped Our Christmas Celebrations: Discover the Hidden History

Published

on

Interestingly, many Christians, particularly Black Christians, are often unaware of the true origins of the December global celebration. Previously, the celebration was variably scheduled in January, March, April, May, or September, reflecting uncertainty about the actual birthdate of Jesus.
The holidays we observe today have their roots in sacred days from ancient Kemetic or what is popularly known as Egyptian culture, where these occasions were timed with celestial events such as the alignment of stars, constellations, and the sun’s position relative to Earth.

The colonial education narrative has consistently taught, and still teaches, Africans that their ancestors relied solely on oral traditions to transmit knowledge and memory. Sadly, Africans in the so-called West, Central, East, and Southern African regions are unaware of writing systems in these parts of Africa.
