The Black Death & How It Ravaged Europe | Medieval Documentary

Published

on

The disease known as the plague has been stalking humanity for over 5,000 years, and there have been many outbreaks. In fact, there have been three pandemics caused by the bacillus bacterium Yersinia Pestis. The first was in the 6th century. It devastated the Byzantine Empire and was known as The Plague of Justinian. The third began in China in the mid-19th century and quickly spread throughout the world. But it is the plague that began in 1346 which killed more than 50 million people in just seven years that we refer to as the ‘Black Death’. The Middle Ages was a time of superstition, religious fanaticism and ignorance and so they thought it was the end of the world. In reality it was the largest pandemic in the history of humanity.

The plague bacterium is still present in our environment. They believe it has bacterium blooms, throughout history or in times when Famine or other diseases were becoming epidemic portions. This would weaken the immune system and one form or another to take hold.

Tuberculosis out breaks history works like this.

Both the plague and Tuberculosis are still active and outbreaks still happen. In poverty areas, both can caused contained outbreaks still happen but are rarely measured to the masses to not cause panic and out attitudes to the homeless or those living in extreme poverty aren't really allowed to intermingle with the rest of society.

The number one thing I find scary about this black death plague as well as the recent Covid-19 is just how easily into insanity and religious and/or superstitious fanaticism people can slip into because believe me, when Covid-19 hit I slipped into this form of fanaticism as well which didn't do me or my family any good as me and my family all caught the Covid-19. Luckily we all survived!

It's wild to think all of that devastation, where they thought it was the end of the world, led to us having the Black Death in our DNA now. The 14th century was when this occurred and was a very quick evolution of the immune system. Autoimmunity is thought to have begun when humanity upgraded their skill set in the 14th century pandemic.

I wish I could get an obsessively in depth analysis of how the Black Death affected people and society psychologically and as a whole and what kinds of issues down the line did it lead to? Like did people start valuing family more or did the trauma of losing so many loved ones create a society of people who were emotionally detached and lost the ability to feel attached to anyone, including their own lovers and children. Did people become kinder and more generous or did surviving the Black Death make them worse human beings?

For example, I read that in a certain part of Italy, some of the people really took YOLO to the next level and became completely debauched and lost all sense of integrity and morality, especially the people who would cart around the dead bodies of plague victims to the pits. Apparently they started getting drunk all the time, started having sex in public without caring or hiding their behavior, became thuggish and people began fearing them bc there was no telling what they might do to you – whether they would assault you or rob you.

I am trying to imagine how our generation would react to something like this…

The issue I have with the narrative of the bodies being catapaulted is that, being a port, the ship rat would be well esconsed in Caffa itself anyway. It is likely there would have been Plague there before the bodies were catapaulted. Gabriel De Mussis was on one of the galleys that left Caffa, and was crystal clear in his testimony that there were no Plague cases on his ship from Caffa to Genoa. That doesn't mean that one of the other seven galleys did not have Plague cases. If they did, they would have died before they reached Genoa. It is the rats that would have spread it into Genoa. It should be noted that Venice had Plague every year, being a very busy port city and getting goods from around the world. So Plague would have opened at least two fronts in Italy,

How Africa Shaped Our Christmas Celebrations: Discover the Hidden History

Published

on

Interestingly, many Christians, particularly Black Christians, are often unaware of the true origins of the December global celebration. Previously, the celebration was variably scheduled in January, March, April, May, or September, reflecting uncertainty about the actual birthdate of Jesus.
The holidays we observe today have their roots in sacred days from ancient Kemetic or what is popularly known as Egyptian culture, where these occasions were timed with celestial events such as the alignment of stars, constellations, and the sun’s position relative to Earth.

The colonial education narrative has consistently taught, and still teaches, Africans that their ancestors relied solely on oral traditions to transmit knowledge and memory. Sadly, Africans in the so-called West, Central, East, and Southern African regions are unaware of writing systems in these parts of Africa.
