African Soldiers and French Women in World War II : Forbidden Love?

Published

on

During both World Wars, a significant number of African soldiers served on French soil, leading to many interactions with local civilians. These soldiers often found themselves warmly welcomed into French homes, a stark contrast to the treatment they experienced back in the colonies.

Their time in France allowed for numerous social encounters, not just through service-related activities but also through more personal connections. For instance, during world war one some African soldiers formed friendships or romantic relationships with French women they met in various ways – from being cared for by nurses when wounded, to spending time in several french towns during the winter months.

These relationships ranged from platonic friendships to more intimate connections, sometimes resulting in marriages or families.

America was just as cruel. My uncle fought in WWII and married a French woman and had a son. Despite the white soilders being able to bring their wives and children to America , the Black soilders were denied the ability to bring their families back to America as well as denied ability to stay in France with their families

That’s crazy to love colonizers while they abuse your people.
Wouldn’t just the look of them disgust you?
We are a weak soft people and we pay for it until today.

Thank you for another fascinating video.
The book, 'The Isis (Auset) Papers' sprang to mind whilst watching this. Truly racism was a subtle weapon, which backfires when clear and direct physical force is applied to the oppressed, as history has shown with revolutions against colonies, apartheid and the like.
But when the racism is non-violent and less outspoken, it endures. This milder type of racism is no less pernicious because it seeks to target what the Western mind sees as the head of the black world/family: the black man. It's a cultural war. Yet, we can overcome this by continuing to assert ourselves in small ways. We can fight back, not with literal force, but by embracing and promoting our indigenous cultures, including our traditions. Simply doing so leaves no target for an increasingly self-righteous enemy to strike, whilst boosting us along many of the dynamics of power Dr. Cress Welsing mentioned, namely the cultural, religious, economic and political. In short, self love is the way.

No one has Greer fear of the cliff down than the one climbed highest!!High up white colonialists knew how a single mistake could plummet them to bottom with a mortal thud! even human emotions n desires were casualties to the enterprise of greed and loot.i believe women presence on a wider world platform might solve humanity incongruences to a great degree.men to be sure are the insecure, violent, and weaker sex seeking control of all to literally "stay on top".

Black American Troops fought in the French Army during WWl and ll because raycist US Army officials believed and or pushed propaganda that they were not fit for combat and white US troops refused to fight alongside blacks the US Army allowed the French who were desperate for manpower to take several black units under their command. These black troops were quickly retrained on French arms and immediately went on to kick major German a*s, so much that the Germans nicknamed them "black devils" for their fierce fighting spirit. They were the first American troops to earn French medals. The French military praised them for their discipline and fighting spirit and capabilities and the French citizens praised them for their manners and kindness.

France had been using black soldiers for a couple centuries before WWI. They'd had Europe's first all black black led regiment, the Legion St George in the 1700's. The had black Generals in their army commanding white troops more than a century before the first black US General, eg Toussaint L'Ouverture, Joseph Serrant, Wladislaw Jablonowsky, Thomas Alexandre Dumas (father of author Alexandre Dumas who wrote The Three Musketeers and The Count Of Monte Cristo).
Because slavery in France was outlawed in the 1300's blacks were free in France and despite racism many went to positions in society, professions, politics, military, entertainment etc that wouldn't be open to US blacks for a couple centuries.

During WWl the commander of the US expeditionary forces sent a covert memo to French authorities entitled "Secret lnformation Concerning The Black American Troops" that pushed negative and raysist propaganda about black US troops and blacks in general, and which demanded that in order to maintain the morale and dignity of white US troops the French should give the black US troops US Jim Crow style treatment like segregation, red lining, anti miscegenation, non fraternisation, overly harsh punishments etc.
In other words, the US army demanded that a foreign country be just as raysist to black US troops as they were treated back home.
However, the French generally ignored such demands.

A common joke among the French at the time went like this "We're glad the Yanks are here to help us fight, but did they have to bring those white boys with them?"
This was because the black US troops were seen as far more polite, disciplined, better behaved, kinder etc than their white counterparts.

In WWl black US military bands introduced the French to jazz and they immediately fell in love with it, opening the way for many black musicians to perform and even live in France, as well as opening the French appetite for more forms of black American culture

How Africa Shaped Our Christmas Celebrations: Discover the Hidden History

Published

on

Interestingly, many Christians, particularly Black Christians, are often unaware of the true origins of the December global celebration. Previously, the celebration was variably scheduled in January, March, April, May, or September, reflecting uncertainty about the actual birthdate of Jesus.
The holidays we observe today have their roots in sacred days from ancient Kemetic or what is popularly known as Egyptian culture, where these occasions were timed with celestial events such as the alignment of stars, constellations, and the sun’s position relative to Earth.
