Just an addition as interesting fact: some African veterans’ grave stones were found in Aquincum, capital of Pannonia province, today’s Budapest. Among the troops of the African Numidian tribe, soldiers of cohort II Flavia Numidarum miliaria left written stone monuments and stamped bricks in the Danube valley. It is certain that this cohort stationed in Dacia in 129 was ordered east half a century later. The horse-riding Numidian people were suitable because of their specific fighting style to defend agains the similarly fighting Iazyges (Sarmatians) on the left bank of the river Danube.

Black as a name for "Africans" is as offensive as Yellow for Asians. Race is a construct of the 17th-18th. I appreciate the content. Some of what you are discussing is misleading because it a part of the story. Northern Africa was invaded by the Arabs and Greeks then, the Romans. Egypt had African rulers outside of the 25th Dynasty.

I think the distinguishment of race and racism was clearly present in the ancient world, however I think where it gets touchy or more nuanced is when we try to equate our modern understandings of race relations post-chattel slavery and the race relations of societies pre-chattel slavery.

It's refreshing to hear someone take on this subject using historical evidence and facts. Instead, of the most recent stupidity with so-called scholars quoting their grandmother s opinion. I don't care about anyone's grandmother's interpretation of history. Facts and evidence rule, thank you very much.

Can you do a video of BRUTUS the black person who established rome. Perhaps he was a blackmooor. The white moores had privileges given by blackmoors. Moore meant muslim of dark skin…so they existed before white moors as a distinct people. The older serves the younger to show his prowess not in subservience they are in no part inferior. So yeah brutus. Or even Hannibal or nimrod…truth is whites now have the knowledge of good and evil..where before them was good and evil…

Wrong. Rome and all of Europe and the the new world were black, and white stole it. We have no homeland, no place we're from, we just appeared and stole all the black peoples lands. We have no home. Don't you know anything?

Most Greek historians and ancient Laws disagree with Metartron on diversity in Ancient Greece since it was not allowed. Visitors were welcomed but non were allowed to stay. Pandering does not help your channel of the facts and many other more credible experts agree as well that you dont know what you are talking about.
Also using word like racism is the tool devised by communist socialist to destabilize nations. Most nations that use it the most have issues just like your country.

During the reign of Emperor Septimius Severus, who ruled over large parts of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, an intriguing incident occurred in Britain. In AD 208, as Severus was inspecting the wall near the rampart in Britain, he wondered what omen would present itself. At that moment, an Ethiopian from a military unit, known for his jests and humor, approached him wearing a garland made of cypress. The emperor, troubled by the man’s ominous color and the nature of the garland, ordered him to be removed from his sight. The Ethiopian, in jest, reportedly cried out, “You have been all things, you have conquered all things, now, O conqueror, be a god” 1.

This unusual anecdote, preserved in the Historia Augusta, sheds light on the ethnicity of Roman soldiers. Although the Historia Augusta is not entirely reliable, the fact that this event was considered believable suggests that encountering a black soldier serving in the Roman army in northern Britain around AD 210 was at least possible, even if not common. The Roman empire was cosmopolitan and multi-ethnic, drawing people from various territories and turning them into citizens, including within the army. While Severus himself could be described as African, the black soldier in Britain was not specifically referred to as an Aethiops (the Roman term for someone of black African origin) 12.

Interestingly, the color black held superstitious significance for the Romans, often associated with death. For instance, the historian Appian recounts that the military commander Brutus encountered an Ethiopian outside his camp before the Battle of Philippi in 42 BC. Mistaking the man’s appearance for a bad omen, Brutus’s soldiers promptly attacked him 1.

In summary, the presence of black Africans in the Roman army, even in Britain, was not unheard of, and their ethnicity added to the rich tapestry of Rome’s diverse military forces.

Philip the Arab and Elagabalus were of Arabic descent. Septimius Severus was of African descent, and is depicted with dark skin. There are many dark skinned people depicted in the Fayum portraits.

Are you basically saying that black people because they were in the minority or just regularly treated maybe a little bit worse but for the most part they still had opportunity? There is no overall hatred towards them they just happened to be a small part of the population

    May 26, 2024 at 1:12 pm

Can somebody explain to me this weird tendency of black and other non Roman people to pass their ancestors as full citizens of the ancient Rome?

I'm a Croat, and while we love to show off and hold our Roman heritage in high regard, we are very comfortable knowing and understanding Ancient Romans weren't our ancestors, we weren't fully fledged Roman citizens, etc. we dress as Roman soldiers to show off ancient Roman palaces and the arena, but we never feel the need to lie about our own history, or our own heritage and play pretend. We understand we just happen to live here, where ancient Roman buildings still exist, and we consider ourselves their guardians, but never anything more than that. You won't see even a drunken Croat in a bat claiming we're fully fledged heirs of ancient Rome, let alone a real historian or a scientist. Our history, struggles and achievements were different, and we take pride in them without the need to lie about them.

So what is wrong with these people? Do they feel their real history to be so inferior, they want to steal someone else's?

And I get it. As Slavs, most of our history pre-dating ancient Roman times was lost… Because we were illiterate, and Romans charged the people to educate us, which is when records of our history start. That's no shame. Lying, that is shameful.

  46. @glennisholcomb592

    May 27, 2024 at 7:20 am

After Constantine, because it is a complete lie to say that Peter was the pope of the Catholic Church, because there is no pope in the Bible. Constantine became the first pope, and the following two popes after Constantine were both black Africans. That should say a lot.

  47. @glennisholcomb592

    May 27, 2024 at 7:23 am

I would also have you remember that the iconoclast pre-dated this so-called notion of black washing the changes

  48. @glennisholcomb592

    May 27, 2024 at 8:11 am

Do use of the word Ethiopia in history Hass to be taken with a grain of salt. Because according to Godfrey Higgins, there were three Ethiopia’s. But I would say Godfrey Higgins when he talked about Ethiopians, he meant to say lands that were ruled by blacks there were three lands that were wolf by blacks.
