Steve Biko: The African Revolutionary, Why was he Killed?

Published

on

On September 12, 1977, the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa was dealt a heavy blow due to the death of Bantu Steve Biko, a popular voice of Black liberation in South Africa between the mid 1960s until his death in police detention in 1977.

Biko was one of the most prominent leaders in the anti-apartheid struggle and in some quarters he was seen as “the most important black South African leader of this generation.” So important, in fact, that the Apartheid Government was terrified of him.

My husband, a Nigerian, shares the same thought that Nelson Mandela held. Let the Afrikaner s be. I'm off the mind, that they should go back to where they're from. 1990 may seem like a long time ago to some whereby that is when Mandela was freed BUT these people's feelings do not change overnight. Now it's like…ooohhh let's act like all is well😤😤😤. Until we true Africans BREAK the minds of these people to once and for all let them know that they should not teach their children to hate. Until we break their minds to show them, YOU have been stealing maiming and killing our people for generations and when we fight back, YOU call the gall to call us terrorists. NOT only in Africa, presently in the Middle East as well. Until we show them that they are NOTHING without us. THEN and ONLY then maybe they will hold their corner. I'm still a little lost as to why they left their homeland to begin with to come and occupy other people's land? Further they had the nerve to create laws to say stealing and killing is bad, so we're going to put you in jail for it🤣😂🤣🤣. God, the ignorance is RAMPANT!!!

As a Kenyan who lived in South Afrika back in the 80s, i had the privilege of seeing encountering the intimidation of the apartheid system, when a white police officer stopped a black South Afrikan man from having a conversation with me, those days Chris Hani was preparing to invade South Afrika with an army.

African countries have been denied the well positioned leadership of its energetic sons and daughters by colonial and apartheid racistic governments. May their souls rest in peace.

Thank you for putting this together. Very interesting. I would like to think that someday there will be no more hatred, bigotry or oppression but sadly- I don’t think humanity will ever be that amazing. 😢

No man. I am so confused right now. Is this real footage of the homelands? Why does everything look so well kept. Why is it normal for people to have education and be able to persue degrees.
How do these black people have more wealth and look better dressed

    This is so sad

Today most of what we invest ourselves in as the youth of today is parties and alcohol and and and and. I read this man’s works and it is clear that he was in a class all on his own. We were truly dealt a serious blow when they took him away. Continue to rest in peace son of the African soil. ✊🏽✊🏽

He will be turning in his grave knowing what black South African did with his sacrifice…nothing, laziness, allowing whites and Asians get away with genocide and stolen loot while attacking other Africans instead.

What a waste of talent that was. Steve Biko was seriously blessed with super intelligence. The Caucasians are very jealous of any super intelligent black person. They think intelligence is their privilege, no black person should be, but all blacks must remain under their feet. This narrative must die a death forever. We are all blessed and should be respected as such for the benefit of all man kind.

Sanbonani everyone. I was born in South Africa in 1972. I can remember as a little girl in the kitchen where we lived hearing that Steve Biko had died. I never understood Apartheid. We as white children were terrorised at schools with bomb scares right up until I started teaching in 1995. I have only ever taught African children. I speak seSotho isiZulu, and love some of the black customs like labola, damages for getting a girl pregnant. I speak fluent English and Afrikaans and learnt seSotho in Primary school. IsiZulu in High school Then again at university at Rand Afrikaans University where for the first time I had black coloured and Indian friends I attempted seSotho again but what was called Northern Sotho. We all felt like fools because we could not master it.vHowever we tried and passed. At one stage we had to teach about a political leader or activist. I always taught about Mr Biko because we all need to be proud of who we are. Sometimes I am embarrassed to be white. I wonder what Mr Biko would say about SA today. Remember to Listen to Johnny Clegg's song called Biko. I am an African girl with a white skin. Nkosinathi Mme Sue

The truth is, if someone fights for the truth in political matters.he/she is being hunted and dragged to be killed,Leaving alive leaders and their followers who always are corruptive, stealing money for citizens, greedy to eat amongst themselves not thinking about people who voted for them, Biko you showed compassion to all South African citizens,
    We will remember u forever,
May Ur spirit rest in holy rest peace
