2024 Oscars: Emma Stone Explains Her Wardrobe Malfunction While Winning Best Actress!

Michelle Yeoh knows the importance of friendship.

During the March 10 Oscars ceremony, the Everything Everywhere All At Once star was one of five previous Best Actress winners who took to the stage to present this year’s award, which ultimately went to Poor Things‘ Emma Stone. Now, Michelle is clarifying why she passed the trophy to Jennifer Lawrence to hand to Emma.

“Congratulations Emma!” the 61-year-old captioned a March 11 Instagram post. “I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of handing over Oscar to you together with your best friend Jennifer!”

Because after all, Michelle knows what it’s like to have a friend in your corner. “She reminded me of my Bae Jamie Lee Curtis,” she added of her former costar. “Always there for each other!!”

Michelle and Jennifer were two of the five actresses who, along with Sally Field, Charlize Theron and Jessica Lange, took to the stage to speak to the work of each of the nominees—a format the Oscars implemented this year for the Best and Supporting Actor/Actress categories.

Nominated alongside Emma were Anatomy of a Fall‘s Sandra HüllerNyad‘s Annette BeningMaestro‘s Carey Mulligan and Killers of the Flower Moon‘s Lily Gladstone, all of whom Emma was sure to recognize in her acceptance speech.

Minnesota Vikings Rookie Khyree Jackson Dead at 24 After Car Crash

The NFL is mourning one of their own.

Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Upper Marlboro, Md. early July 6, less than three months after he was selected by the team in the fourth round of the league’s 2024 draft. He was 24.

Maryland State Police said in a statement that the athlete had been riding in a Dodge Charger with Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, his former teammates from Wise Jr. High School. The latter two had also played at Florida State and Penn State, and Maryland and Charlotte, respectively, according to multiple reports.

Jackson and Hazel, the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and Lytton died after being taken to a hospital, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that around 3 a.m., a female driver of an Infinity Q50 had attempted to change lanes while driving fast when she struck the car carrying the athletes and then also hit a Chevrolet Impala. The Charger subsequently traveled off the road and hit multiple tree stumps, police said.

Seeing the Stars of Top Gun Then and Now Will Take Your Breath Away

Published

Astrophysicist and civilian Top Gun instructor Charlie Blackwood took Maverick’s breath away and theirs was a cinematic love story for the ages…or at least the 1980s, since McGillis said she was not asked to be in the sequel. And she almost didn’t make it into the first film, either.

“I didn’t want to do it,” she recalled to The Guardian in 2001. “But because I’d done Witness, I owed Paramount another film, and my agent said, ‘You have to do this.’ I took one look at it and said, ‘This is like a Western in the sky—I don’t wanna do this.’ It wasn’t about acting, it was about being a cartoon character. You know what I mean? I could have done it blindfolded. I was grateful for the fact that it gave me opportunities I wouldn’t otherwise have had. But I showed up for work, did my bit, hung out with a bunch of boys, played baseball, and went home. It was like being at camp. Why they hired me I’ll never know.”

McGillis next portrayed a prosecutor seeking justice for a rape victim played by eventual Oscar winner Jodie Foster in The Accused. She kept acting in the likes of The BabeNorth and many smaller films and TV movies, but she also opened a restaurant in Florida with her yacht mogul second husband, Fred Tillman, in the 1990s and put acting on the back burner.

She has two daughters with Tillman, whom she divorced in 2002. She came out as gay in 2009 and had a civil union ceremony with Melanie Leis in 2010, but they broke up the following year.

“I think just my priorities in life changed,” McGillis told Entertainment Tonight in 2019 from home in North Carolina. “It wasn’t like a major decision that I made to leave [acting], it was just that other things became more important. I love acting, I love what I do, I love doing theater, but I don’t know. To me, my relationships to other people became far more important than my relationship to fame.”
