Thanks for your work and the visible precision. The Luos immigrations went further than Kameroun or Cameroon. There Luos in Congo Zaire, Congo Brazzaville, Chad, Gabon, The Central African Republic, Nigeria, Ghana, North of Ivory Coast, North of Liberia and the Gambia Senegal border (that's apart from being present in Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Tanzania). There is however no confirmed evidence of Luos in Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali and Mauritania eventhough a small community is Senegal is said to be descendants of Luos who transversed the last four countries. I met one of them who's a University Lecturer and he told me that as a matter of survival, they were forced to adopt Wolof and Mandinka as their new mother-tongues but deep down they know they're Luos even after so many mixed marriages.

I think it could be possible because near bordering Cameroon is the igbo in Southeast nigeria. The igbo people share so many common names with luo people like okoye, okeke, Akomo, Gombe,(Luo,Igbo)Okonkwo(Igbo… Okongo(Luo) mean the same thing in both languages Okachi (Luo- Okach), Agali (Luo Ogali), Okocha (Luo okochi) ojukwu (Luo Ojuku) Amadi (Luo Amadi) and several others are very similar. the cultural similarities from rites like the second burial, which luos reffer to as loso sao, to things like not calling small pox with its real name , to taking care of brothers compound, to the burial rites where youths wear twigs and mourn ,the hooting of the owl being a sign of death, and many many more

Jamigochwa, recently there surfaced a video of Luo speaking people in Niger. Their dialect isn’t far from the Acholi. I could understand 40% of their conversation.

The Tikar people of Cameroon have oral traditions of migrating from Sudan and the Kingdom of Kush. Is there a possible connection with Nilotes such as the Luo?

I am glad to see this report again since I first saw it while researching on endangered Luo languages. I was similarly attracted by the word Tor for mountain. The report similarly said the Luo opted to be assimilated into the major tribes because they felt threatened by the big tribes. The movement of the Nilotic tribes was westwards since 9000 yrs ago. Another language similarity is that of the Ibo and Luo namebof God. Luo says Jok while Ibo says Chukwu. The two are phonetically similar.

Luo should form international festival in one of the country to bring all the diverse culture together. I love the Luos coz they are too proud, resilient, hardworking and leaders.
