   Id bet black armour is better in the heat. Black is worn in hot climates because the good absorbtion of heat creates convection currents radiating more heat

   ofc black armour is better than steel. You need level 10defence to wear it in comparison to 5defence for steel

   My first thought on why I wouldn't want black armor in a battle of that period is "Well, no one else has black armor." if I'm marching towards the enemy, clutching my spear knowing I'm about to be in a literal fight for my life, the last thing I want to be is the guy who stands out and is super obvious amongst the crowd.

   I imagine, particularly in the earlier periods, when a lot of armies were non-pro looking rich was a big advantage as then people would avoid fighting near you as you might have a pro retuine?

    It would be cool to see people in blackened and silver armor next to eachother at night to say if there is any advantage in comoflage. Pure darkness, moonlight torch/candle light. Granted, it would require a good low-light camera to demonstrate the results.

    according to what they told me (source Stibbert armor museum in Florence) it actually existed an Italian leader of the 16th century, Giovanni delle Bande Nere, whose army carried black insignia and flags, for a Pope's mourning, and he had his armor darkened and ordered the armor for his army to be darkened, because he carried out night raids and one of these was against the famous knight bayard.

    My neighbour constantine really annoy me. I get a brigandine, he gets a brigandine. i get a leaf bladed spear, he gets a leaf bladed spear. i get a blackened helmet, he can't afford it!

    Perhaps black would also have some utility for psychological warfare effect. Especially if you have an ominous standard of some kind. A mercenary company could also potentially use that for marketing purposes to get more contracts.

    Imagine using modern coatings and having earth toned armor for skirmishes in forested areas. A nice camouflage made of OD green, Flat Dark Earth, and some shade of brown Cerakote covering the armor. An additional benefit is it's excellent rust protection.

    Hungarian army at one point had black armor and Serbian army during reign of despot Stevan Lazarević if I rememer correctly. It might've looked frightening as well, I remember reading how French knights were afraid of Catalonians because they could cast spells I think the words of one Frenchman were something like this : they tap spears on the ground and they come alive, when they do it we are doomed.

    by darksouls logic, blackend armour has better fire damage negation, while mirror polish has better magic negation, so match it agains the boss and you'r golden.
