18:32 Did people had a concept of "muslim blood"? I mean, this implies that Islamic is tied to ethnicity 🥴

Hardly the Early Middle Ages. AD 1015 is closer to smack dab in the middle thereof, but in the second half, depending upon when you think they ended. I'm going with AD 476 to 1492, which would make the middle 984.

Why aren't you giving important context??? Sicily (after being liberated by the normans under Roger) was granted freedom to practise any religion (even the one that hails that child rapist from Arabia that had oppressed the former owners of Sicily – greek christians – for centuries) the same goes for other "muslim territories" … all of those were converted to islam by the sword – whining about an attempt to take them back by the sword is cheap …. to say the least! (And: the Normans from Sicily didn't even join that "first crusade" …. the second they did – likely having discovered the true nature of their muslim subjects by then.)

I'm very disturbed at the west's own judgment of the Crusades. As it being wrong either historically, and/or it being necessary to hold some present-day guilt for them.
As a staunch athiest (should not matter!), there should be NO shadow over them.
The plain text of their writing demands always to strive towards world domination. It is NOT the "extreme" view!

One sort of visual error; they show a skyline of Pisa while discussing the time of the first attacks, but we see the Leaning Tower—that wasn't built until 1173.

The story about Al-Andalus is totally fictional, Sardinia never been conquered by muslims, in the island there aren't ruins of muslim settlements and it wasn't find not even a single object which can demonstrate any kind of arab occupation.
That story comes from a novel written in the XIX century…

Where did “ Pidal(100 yrs old)” get his information from? Can i get the information you have? Like , why was this ignored in the Victorian and modern era without the academia of the modern age knowing this? How is this not in contemporary history of the time till now? Yes , there must have been skirmishes that compelled the Pope of the First Crusades to make a speech( so I was taught to behold) but this is past due.. 🧐🕵🏼‍♂️🕵🏼‍♂️🤨

Mujahid was the driving force behind denia, he was an amiris official in charge of eastern al andalus, which was known for harboring many pirates nests. He organised them and saw to conquere Mediterranean Islands to control trade (mercantile Enterprise) that's all, it had nothing to do with religion, he was too ambitious a sea empire

How come the Muslim conquests of other countries is OK but taking them back is bad? This doesn't make sense. The only ones that are considered wrong are the ones beating back Muslim conquests, why? Good on you for acknowledging the Muslim slave trade, few will. The west has been taught that the only slavery was white against black without ever teaching that slavery was a constant throughout history. Thank you for acknowledging that the slavs were so often used as slaves that it is where we get the name. Ask yourself why, despite having a more extensive & far longer before & after the European slave trade in Africans, do you not see a black diaspora in Muslim countries. The answer will turn your stomach.

  33. @lisapop5219

There is no such thing as Muslim blood just like there is no such thing as Christian blood. They are religions, not ethnicity or a race.

It's not historically accurate as the Saracens only attacked coastal areas of Sardinia. By fully coloring Sardinia in green or in red the video falsely suggests that the island was completely subjugated – something not even the Romans managed to accomplish – while in fact the Saracens only sporadically formed coastal camps for predatory purposes – to steal cattle and produce – but each time, after the Sardinians became aware of a new camp they got organized to go in masses to destroy such camps and kick out the Saracens. The 4 Giudicate of Sardinia were formed precisely because the Sardinians trusted more in themselves to defend the island from the Saracens than they did in the by then weakened Byzanthium, the empire Sardinia had been a part of until its people formed the independent 4 Giudicati. The flag of Sardinia features 4 Moorish heads (Saracens), the people that the 4 Giudicati defeated. I should also add that the Saracens were never a strong maritime power. They were not very good at sea to manage to control lands that were not easily accessible by land. They could invade Spain because crossing the sea from Africa to reach it is only a couple of miles. Sicily is much closer to north African coasts than Sardinia and there are a few small islands in between (Pantelleria, Lampedusa, Malta) which could be used as stepping stones and maritime bases on the way to reach Sicily. Sardinia is surrounded by large bodies of water, which are also dangerous due to very frequent strong winds, without small islands between it and Africa. While there are important buildings left by the Arab domination in Spain there are none in Sardinia, not even a small mosque from that time of history, which supports the notion that the Arabs never had a chance to set foot in Sardinia in any stable manner or for any long periods. They acted as little more than pirates in some coastal areas.

"Crusades" means the Romans' attempts, using Germanic (including Norman and generally European) warriors, to reconquer lands lost to Arab and Arabic-speaking conquerors several hundred years before. So, yes, the "crusades" also include and start with the Iberian peninsula, Sardinia, and Sicily (England can also be included in this context) , then shortly thereafter the eastern Mediterranean seaboard.

They succeeded in the northern Mediterranean lands and islands, but failed in the eastern Mediterranean lands until several hundred years later when the Europeans developed the combined use of superior navigation and firepower and conquered not only the eastern Mediterranean lands, but large chunks of the entire world.

Today and going forward it will perhaps be a question of who has the better drone and clone armed forces.

    Good Luck!

the Crusades were a response to Muslim invasion of southern Europe, It saved Europe from Muslim tyranny. To bad Africa was not Unified enough to oust the Muslim invasion.

Postmodernism and Its Impact, Explained.

Helen Pluckrose outlines some of the arguments later explored in depth in her bestselling 2020 book, Cynical Theories (co-authored with James Lindsay). The essay charts the pernicious influence of postmodernist thinking on two generations of academics and activists. If you want to understand how we got to a place where microaggressions are denounced as violence but the brutal terrorism of an intifada is considered righteous, this is an important primer.

Iona Italia reads Helen Pluckrose’s essay published in Quillette: https://quillette.com/2024/05/07/how-french-intellectuals-ruined-the-west-foucault-lyotard-derrida/
