Algeria did not shake hands with France, but rather led a revolution that claimed the lives of 1.5 million martyrs for the freedom of its people.

For a video about the history of Africa, this sure is extremely Eurocentric in the parts of history it chooses to highlight and the parts it chooses to omit. Egypt > Greece > Rome > HRE > British Empire > USA is the civilizational mythos of western history. True African history does not conform to that mythos and it doesn't centre the mythos of "western civilization" when it is being retold in the spirit of objective retelling of African history. There was barely any mention of pre-colonial African civilisations that existed except for 3 kingdoms in west Africa and Egypt. Barely a history of Africa if you don't include Mutapa, Kilwa Kisiwani, the Zulus and many more who had significant historical impacts on their respective regions. Instead focussing mainly on the history of Africa when Europeans started their conquests and plundering.

Postmodernism and Its Impact, Explained.

Published

on

Helen Pluckrose outlines some of the arguments later explored in depth in her bestselling 2020 book, Cynical Theories (co-authored with James Lindsay). The essay charts the pernicious influence of postmodernist thinking on two generations of academics and activists. If you want to understand how we got to a place where microaggressions are denounced as violence but the brutal terrorism of an intifada is considered righteous, this is an important primer.

Iona Italia reads Helen Pluckrose’s essay published in Quillette: https://quillette.com/2024/05/07/how-french-intellectuals-ruined-the-west-foucault-lyotard-derrida/
