A nursery worker who strapped a nine-month-old baby face down to a beanbag and left her there for 90 minutes has been jailed for 14 years for the child’s manslaughter.

Kate Roughley, 37, had denied carrying out an unlawful act to cause Genevieve Meehan’s death, but was found guilty on Monday after a trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Genevieve was seen struggling and coughing on CCTV recorded at the Tiny Toes nursery in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, on 9 May 2022.

But Roughley did not check on her until she was “unresponsive and blue”.
